40 year anniversary of DuPont Nomex ® in the Global Industry

DuPont Nomex®, a revolutionary, heat- and flame-resistant fiber which applications range from protective fabrics and garments to electrical insulation and other high-performance applications, marks its 40th anniversary this year. At the same time at which its demand continues to rise for high performance materials and various applications. Nomex® is an inherently flame-resistant, high-temperature fiber that will not melt, drip or support combustion in air. It also delivers outstanding resistance to a broad range of chemicals and is offered in paper, felt, fabric and fiber forms.

DuPont continues to invest in the research and development of new Nomex® applications to contribute in the resolution of the different ever changing needs worldwide.

With a commitment of continuously offering a solid and innovative service to its customers, DuPont announced last year an expansion global plan of $100 million dollars to increase its production capacity worldwide and support new applications, among which are the following:

Wind Power - Amplified Nomex® applications which have provided solutions for the increasing demand of wind generated energy in countries like Spain and China.
Motors - New electrical insulation solutions and applications in the motor manufacturing and repair industries.
DuPont Tychem ThermoPro - One garment which combines flame and chemical protection.

Motor, generator, transformer and other electrical equipment manufacturers have counted on DuPont Nomex®, the standard for electrical insulation, for more than 40 years. Its electrical, mechanical and thermal properties contribute to extend the life if electrical equipments, and also reduce malfunctions and premature repairs. Honeycomb of Nomex® paper is used for lightweight structural support and also helps substantially improve the performance of most commercial aircraft. Nomex® is also found in home appliances, industrial and transportation equipment.
